Why do you need a desktop fountain? You probably feel the most stress at your desk. What you can do to reduce stress without sacrificing work time is to improve the stress reduction factors in the environment around you.

Desk fountains are a constant source of running water. Running water reduces stress factors in the environment in two ways. It improves the quality of the environment by producing negatively charged ions and it creates white noise which can blend with distracting and unpleasant dissonant sounds.

Extensive testing has been done on environments high in positively charged ions and environments high in negatively charged ions. Environments high in positively charged ions like a dirty highway are proven to be more stressful, while environments high in negatively charged ions like the beach are proven to be less stressful environments. Negatively charged ions are proven to reduce stress because they combine and neutralize positively charged ions which are known irritants.

White noise improves the environment by helping to neutralizing irritating sounds like the crumpling of paper, the constant ringing of the phone, and the chatter of co workers. It also helps reduce the sound effects of wining children, yard work and pets in the home.
